Saving the Day

When I was eight years old I got my first pygmy goat and was totally and completely in love with her. I spoiled her rotten and loved her more then anything and the next year we bred her to have a baby but there was complications. Now I knew my parents were vets and I had watched their surgeries many times before but this was different. At that age I didn't realize how much of a miracle it actually was. My parents performed an emergency c-section in a barn on a cold February night on a pygmy goat with me and my siblings looking over their shoulder the entire time, and they saved not only my Minnie but also the baby. At that age I assumed that this would be no problem and that it was easy for my parents, but now I realize how complicated and nerve-racking that must have been and now I see how much skill it took save her. They knew how crushed I would be if she died and at that age I wouldn't have understood the odds, and now looking back on that night I see determination in my parents and a great deal of patience with all of us kids.
